Better Off was created to empower people to create the plan that’s best for their family and circumstances, so you can work quickly or take time to consider your options before making a decision. Your plan will be saved automatically so you don’t have to worry about losing your progress.
Based on your responses, Better Off will generate the legal documents needed to make sure your plan is carried out when the time comes. As your life changes, you can come back and make adjustments to your plan at any time, and download updated documents.
You can start building your plan and download a limited but fully functional healthcare directive without paying anything. You only need to pay when you’re ready to download a more robust healthcare directive and a will, and, if you have minor children, a power of attorney to ensure their care if you're incapacitated.
You’ll pay $125 to build your Essential Plan and access all documents. That price includes ongoing storage of your data, unlimited updates and document downloads, and the ability for your loved ones to access your plan if you become incapacitated or die.
After the first year, the annual fee for your Essential Plan will be $45.

To use the plan builder, you must create an account using either your Google account or your email address and a password.
The information gathered as part of the planning process consists only of:
- Names and contact information of people you identify as decision-makers, caregivers, and future recipients of portions of your estate
- Names and birthdates of your family members
- Descriptions of your wishes
- Descriptions of pieces of property and possessions you want to leave to others
Your payment information will be processed through Stripe, a respected payment processor used by many major banks. Payment information is gathered and securely sent via SSL encryption to Stripe to hold and manage for future use. Better Off will not have direct access to your payment information.
No information of any kind will be sold to or shared with third parties and you’ll have the option to delete your account and account data at any time. If you choose to delete your account, Better Off will retain only your email address.
Your personal information and plan will be protected with SOC 2 Type II standards, the same standards commonly used by major financial institutions for data protection. Better Off is also compliant with HIPAA requirements.
No data of any kind will be sold to or shared with third parties and you will have the option to delete your account and data at any time.
